Phone and photo rules at these nights, venue by venue

Most UK kink and lifestyle nights restrict phones, and the rule is usually published: 135 of the 169 event series in the Other Nights index state a phone or photography policy. Five models recur: phones locked away at reception, a sticker over your camera, locked pouches, official photographer only, and zoned use. Penalties run from ejection to lifetime bans.

No per-venue comparison of these rules appears in search results. Search the policies and you get general nightlife journalism about The Warehouse Project or fabric, plus one undated Phoenix magazine feature on London's newer sex clubs that states the norm ("Cameras and phones are a big no-no") without a single per-venue rule. The rules themselves are public. Most organisers put them in a FAQ or house-rules page, and Ignite in London writes the reason into its rules: the ban exists to protect guests from photos of them surfacing on social media or in the press.

The five door models

Across the venues in our index and the mainstream clubs that later adopted the same approach, the field sorts into five models:

1. Hard stop at reception. The phone goes into a locker or cloakroom before you get past the door.
2. Sticker over the camera. You keep your phone; the lens gets covered on arrival.
3. Locked pouch. The phone stays on you, sealed. This is a mainstream-club model; no venue in our index uses pouches.
4. Official photographer only. Attendee photography is banned, and a pass-holding or resident photographer works under consent rules.
5. Zoned use. Phones are fine in named areas, usually a smoking area or balcony, and banned everywhere else.

Phones locked away at the door

The strictest venues do not let the phone in at all. KinkFest in West Bromwich puts it in its public FAQ, alongside the newcomer questions: "Mobile phones and cameras cannot be taken past the venue's reception area."

At Cupids in Manchester, everyone gets a locker and a towel on entry, and the locker key doubles as a bar tab. The house rule is written in capitals: "PHONES / CAMERAS ARE NOT PERMITTED IN OUR CLUB AND MUST BE KEPT IN YOUR LOCKER". Its newbie night is listed here.

Liberty Elite in Lutterworth and V2V in Nuneaton both require the same thing: "phones must be switched off at reception and then immediately placed into your secure locker." Quest in Leeds goes further and bans camera smartwatches by name: "Mobile phones must remain switched off and out of sight at all times; anyone found using a device will be asked to leave immediately". Lockers there take a 5 pound refundable key deposit. Quest's couples and singles party night is listed here.

Chameleons in Darlaston allows phones in the locker rooms only, and the penalty sits inside the rule itself (the grammar is the organiser's own): "Mobile Phones are only allowed in the locker rooms, anyone found using Camera phones or Camera's anywhere with the club will have their membership revoked."

Ignite in London stops phones at the front desk: "Phones are not allowed beyond reception*, unless specific authority is granted by management." The asterisk is the organiser's. At PisSoir, the BiZarre Events night in London, in-venue phone use is banned outright ("You are also NOT ALLOWED to use your mobile phone while inside the venue!") and a free staffed cloakroom runs all night.

Flat bans

Klub Verboten applies one rule across every listed night and its social: "No photos. No videos. No sound recordings. None of these are permitted at any time." Cloakroom or locker provision is not stated.

Le Boudoir in London bans the device classes by name: "We do not permit recording devices of any kind within the club - cameras, mobile phones, smart watches with cameras, Meta glasses, or similar."

Three more, briefly. Club Play in Blackpool: "No cameras or mobile phones to take photographs, respect members privacy. Anyone found breaking this rule will be banned for life." Infusion, also Blackpool, ejects immediately for any recording device and cites privacy and discretion as the reason. Pleasures in Wateringbury, Kent, asks anyone seen using a phone to leave.

Clubs that sticker your camera

The sticker model lets you keep your phone for messages and taxis while covering the lens. Dominium Vita, which runs London play parties, states it plainly: "Upon arrival you will be asked to cover your phone cameras with a sticker which will be provided to you."

A reporter from The Boar described the same door at Pinky Promise's Botanical Ballroom event on 2 May 2025: a sticker went over the reporter's phone camera at the entrance. The same door ran outfit checks under a "no effort = no entry" rule. Pinky Promise Land's index record adds that only the resident photographer may take photos, with consent. Swingathon, the Lincolnshire festival, writes the ban into its terms: "Photography and mobile phones are not permitted anywhere in the festival without prior permission." Phones are allowed only in private camping areas. The exemption route, reported by LADBible on 15 July 2025: "If you need an exemption and wish to keep your phone with you, then stickers will be available to cover cameras at the entrance." The penalty for an unstickered phone, from the same report: "Any persons seen with a phone without camera stickers by staff or security will be asked to leave the arena and/or festival."

Torture Garden camera rules

Torture Garden's etiquette page bans all attendee photography: "No photography, including selfies". The exception, in its own words: "Photos can only be taken by a photographer with an official TG pass, or in designated photobooth areas". Nothing on the page mentions camera stickers, so do not expect a sticker door; the published model is official photographer plus photobooth.

The phone rule is zoned. Use is minimal generally, and there is "absolutely no phone usage for any reason in the Dungeon or Couples Room". Covert kit draws the top-end penalty: "Anyone found with META glasses or other covert filming equipment will receive a lifetime ban."

TG's index record lists a "Cloakroom at every party"; the etiquette page itself does not mention storage. Its Halloween Ball is listed here.

Official photographer only

Several venues run the Torture Garden model with their own mechanics.

Club Antichrist in London uses a photopass: "Cameras and mobile phone camera use are NOT permitted in Club AC unless you have a photopass from us clearly displayed on your person".

Fox and Badge's Bacchanal adds a consent signal at the door: a white wristband means do-not-photograph, and photos are banned outright in the dungeons and sensual spaces.

Swindon's WICKED night brands its rule on the event page: "Eyes Up, Phones Down: No cameras allowed near the action or social spaces. One strike rule: sneaking a picture means a permanent ban." The same organiser runs designated photo zones at its REMIX night, and its KINKY play party bans camera-equipped eyewear.

The Ecclesia in Glasgow bans covert or wearable recording devices such as recording-enabled smart glasses. Photography exceptions need club permission plus the consent of everyone who may be recorded.

Killing Kittens states a house-photographer rule for its cabaret dining event: filming may occur during the cabaret performance, focused on the performers, never on guests, with no faces shown. Its four other listed series state no phone or camera policy in our index, and its FAQ page returned an error when we checked on 2 September 2026. Treat its general phone rule as not stated and ask the organiser.

Fetish Weekend London 2027 pairs its photo rules with a takedown promise: "if you find a photo or video posted online by the event or an attendee where your face is displayed and you are unhappy about it, please contact us straight away, and we will take immediate action to have it deleted." Cloakrooms run at both venues at 3 pounds per item.

Zoned rules

Zoning is the middle setting. The play areas stay camera-free and the phone stays with you for the journey home. Club Pedestal's listing is here.

Smart glasses named in the rules

Wearable cameras get their own clause in several rulebooks. Torture Garden's lifetime ban covers Meta glasses. Le Boudoir bans "smart watches with cameras, Meta glasses, or similar". The Ecclesia bans recording-enabled smart glasses, Quest bans camera smartwatches, and Swindon's KINKY play party bans camera-equipped eyewear. The clause appears independently in five separate rulebooks.

Mainstream clubs adopted the same door

The Warehouse Project in Manchester announced a phone-free dancefloor for its 2025/26 season in June 2025. How it is enforced, whether stickers, pouches or something else, is not stated in the coverage. Amber's in Manchester has stickered cameras since it opened in December 2024 and moved to a one-strike rule after a rise in camera use. Moon Club in Bristol banned dancefloor phones in August 2025.

A May 2026 roundup in The Cold Magazine lists the London mechanisms: stickers at FOLD, a photo ban at fabric, Yondr pouches at Lost, and stickers at playbody at softclub Dalston ("Things that happen at playbody aren't meant to be documented in that way"). The same piece traces the photography ban back to play parties and sex clubs.
