Access at these events: step-free venues, PA tickets and quiet rooms, checked

Almost no UK kink or sex-positive event publishes usable access information. Of the 29 venues in our index, six carry a confirmed step-free answer, and all six are negative. The most reliable data that exists is negative statements published by venues and organisers, one on Scala's page for a Torture Garden night and one in KinkFest's own access report, plus a charity guide from 2024. This page collects everything we could check, with dates.

What organisers publish, ranked

Our live web sweep of 1 September 2026 ranked every access fact by how often it appears in organiser pages and first-person accounts:

Zero kink-event artefacts in that sweep published BSL, hearing loop or Changing Places information, and no disability-review platform covers this scene at all. Accessibility filtering is absent from every event platform we checked. No incumbent guide in the category (Wanderlust Swingers, KinkCompass, the ClickDo network of sites) records step-free access at all.

The same gap appears in mainstream nightlife. Body Babble's piece "Imagine an accessible nightclub", by Celestine Fraser, carries a figure it attributes to the UK Government's UK Disability Survey Research Report of June 2021: "40% of disabled people report being 'unable' or having 'extreme difficulty' accessing nightclubs or music venues". A focus-group participant in the same piece states the principle this page runs on: "Clubs, venues and bars should have the accessibility information on their websites, even if they don't have good access."

Where a venue publishes an honest no

The clearest live example is on Scala's event page for Torture Garden's Halloween Ball 1 (Friday 31 October 2025, tickets from £33): "This event is not recommended for full-time wheelchair users as there are multiple sets of stairs to access the venue and between each room." The page adds that the venue has multiple floors with many stairs and no lift, and is standing only with no assigned seats. A published no stops a wasted journey and a wasted ticket.

The same page carries a policy we found nowhere else: "Complimentary companion tickets are available for disabled customers", arranged by email through the contact given on the event page. A carer-ticket policy that lives inside a single event listing is real, but hard to find before you have already picked the event.

Both Torture Garden Halloween Balls are in our index, sold in advance only with no door sales: Halloween Ball 1 and Halloween Ball 2. One caution: the access statement above sits on the 31 October 2025 event page. Whether it applies to any 2026 Torture Garden event is not stated, and we have not verified 2026 venue listings.

KinkFest publishes an access report

KinkFest, at Xtasia in West Bromwich, publishes a standalone access report that itemises what a wheelchair user can and cannot reach. It opens plainly: "We regret our current venue is not as accessible as we would like, particularly to guests who require wheelchair or mobility scooter access". Entry for wheelchair users is through a rear gate with a small ramp, into the main dance area, bar and play rooms: "If in a wheelchair, we can get you access to 2/3 of the club, with prior arrangement".

It then names the unreachable areas outright: "We can't get you to the dogging area, the downstairs jacuzzi and dungeon, and the top chill lounge". It also flags a defect in the provision it does have: the toilets on the accessible level "have an awkward step to get in and out of the cubicles".

Two caveats. The report carries no date on the page. And no carer or PA ticket policy is stated anywhere we found; the FAQ mentions an Access Fund for people facing financial barriers to attendance, which is a different thing.

PA and companion tickets: who publishes what

PA here means personal assistant; some organisers say carer or companion ticket instead.

The Joyride row rests on 2024 data. Corsica Studios' own website was unreachable when we tried to re-verify it today (HTTP 503 on the site and its access page), so the step-free access, viewing platform and PA ticket details remain as reported by Enhance the UK in June 2024, not as venue facts checked today. Whether Joyride still runs at Corsica Studios as of September 2026 is not stated.

The only guide that exists, and what it says

The only substantial UK guide to attending sex-positive parties as a disabled person is Enhance the UK's article of 25 June 2024, "How to go to a sex positive party and where to find them". It concedes the data problem this page is about: "Judging the accessibility of events is difficult. By nature, these events are pop-ups that move from venue to venue. The best thing to do is to research and contact the organisers ahead of time."

It names six events and parties: Cabaret Identitease, Pinky Promise, Sexquisite, Quench London, Slut Social and Joyride. Its practical advice is to message organisers one by one and track their Instagram pages for venue updates. There is no data layer under that advice; nobody records the answers. The article also acknowledges the anxiety these questions sit inside, noting it "can be really daunting to go to your first event let alone sorting out accessibility or what to wear".

Two of the six publish something concrete. Joyride's provision at Corsica Studios, as reported by the charity, is step-free access and accessible viewing platforms, plus the PA tickets in the table above. Cabaret Identitease publishes "detailed access lists on their page which can be downloaded ahead of the event". For Sexquisite, Quench London and Slut Social, access provision is not stated in the guide and was not verified this session.

Pinky Promise's London series Down the Rabbit Hole publishes an inclusive entry statement that names abilities explicitly: "We welcome folks of all sexual orientations, racial identities/ethnicities, gender expressions, abilities, and body types." An inclusion statement is a different thing from an access statement. The series requires photo ID at the venue, and its step-free status is not stated.

Quiet rooms and sensory access

Sensory access is a separate axis from mobility access, and the published evidence is thinner. Two examples turned up in our sweep of 1 September 2026: a Queer Love Co listing that itemised fidget toys, low lighting, no flashing and no loud music, and Crossbreed, closed since November 2022, which ran a wellness sanctuary. We class sensory provision as a research field for now rather than a filter, because too few events publish it to filter on honestly.

Accessible nightlife outside the sex-positive scene shows what the fields look like once someone publishes them. United By The Groove's accessible rave at The Yard, Manchester (20 September 2025) had a chill-out sensory room, braille signage and a lowered bar with an audio loop, plus an early start and finish. Under One Roof runs accessible raves at YES Basement in Manchester with £4 tickets and free carer entry. Daylight, at Omeara in London, is daytime accessible clubbing for adults with disabilities and carers. On the evidence we have, nothing at this standard exists yet inside the kink and sex-positive scene.

What our index records today

The Other Nights index holds 29 venues. Six carry a confirmed step-free answer, recorded from organiser-published information, and all six answers are negative. No indexed venue yet records step-free access as yes.

Everything else is unknown and displayed as unknown. Accessible toilet, seating, quiet space and hearing loop status are unrecorded for every venue in the index, and no carer-ticket policy is recorded against any series. We publish the negative answers and the gaps rather than implying coverage we do not have, for the reason the Body Babble focus-group participant gave: the information should be up even when the access is poor.

Before you book, ask these

Five questions worth putting to an organiser, in the order the published data fails:

1. Is the route step-free, including between rooms? The Scala statement warns about stairs between rooms, not just at the door.
2. Is there an accessible toilet, and does it have a step? KinkFest's report shows even the accessible level can have one.
3. Is there a carer or PA ticket? The policy may exist but sit inside a single event page or a help page.
4. Is there a quiet room or low-sensory space? About half the mentions we found were wishlist rather than published fact.
5. Are strobes or flashing lights used? Only two artefacts in our sweep published a warning.

Enhance the UK's advice from June 2024 is unchanged by anything found since: "research and contact the organisers ahead of time".

To find events worth asking about, start from kink and BDSM nights in London, couples nights (lifestyle) in London or kink and BDSM nights in Manchester. If you would rather ask your questions in person first, a beginner-friendly meet-up in a pub (munch) is a casual social where people compare notes on venues before committing to a night. Everything we currently list in the capital is at events in London.
